Consell announces aid for local seniors and islanders with disabilities

The Department of Social Welfare reports that requests are now being accepted from elderly islanders and Formentera residents with disabilities who wish to benefit from a new round of subsidies totalling €16,000.

Grant money can be used on items ranging from wheelchairs to glasses, contact lenses, dental prosthetics, hearing aids and hospital beds; as well as to cover fees for vehicle modifications and rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy and speech therapy.

Eligible applicants must be residents on the island, 65 or older and have a recognised disability of at least 33%, in addition to completing other requirements. Individuals receiving care off Formentera can apply providing their family is registered on the island. A technical commission will determine the projects that receive funding.

Applications may be submitted to the Formentera Department of Social Welfare (formerly the “Centre Mèdic”) or OAC until 15 October.
