Consell de Formentera implements safety upgrades at Porto-salè turnout

Foto 2020 millors seguretat viariaThe Consell de Formentera has overseen changes designed to make the juncture of highway PM-820 and the carretera de Porto-salè safer. In recent years, the crossing has been the site of a disproportionate number of sometimes deadly accidents.

Upgrades:

-Solid line from the CEPSA petrol station into La Savina to prevent motorists from dangerous passing attempts.
-Reduced speed limit (from 90 km/h to 70 km/h) to prevent rear-end collisions, one of the most common accidents at this stretch of highway.
-Bigger and better signage highlighting reduced speed limit and dangerous intersection.
-Cleared vegetation near the intersection for improved visibility.

The measures put local roads on the right side of the island’s 2019 Plan for Sustainable Mobility, and are also in line with a measure which was green-lighted at local government’s February plenary session calling for urgent action at the section of highway in question.

The Consell has begun efforts to set up a radar speed trap between the CEPSA petrol station and the Porto-salè turnout, and is preparing upgrades that will make turning in and out easier for drivers.

Crews clean and disinfect Centre de Dia

foto 2020 netejaIn recent days Consell de Formentera cleaning crews have disinfected inner patio spaces and the exterior of the island’s adult care centre. Though personnel have begun returning to work, the Centre de Dia remains closed to the public, and islanders who normally get care there are currently benefitting from at-home and over-the-phone assistance from Formentera social services staff.

At present the local government’s cleaning team is still engaged in special operations to disinfect and pressure-wash high-traffic spots in the main towns of the island.

Painting of road markings starts on PM-820 from La Savina to La Mola

foto 2020 pm820 1The Formentera Department of Island Services reports that work began today on an initiative to update road surface markings on highway PM-820 stretching from La Savina to La Mola. Crews started at La Mola lighthouse and are scheduled to wrap up three days from now in the town of La Savina.

The department judged the upgrades were a needed change after seven years, and deemed the present moment opportune considering, with highway traffic sparse, a minimum number of  motorists stood to be impacted. Crews will repaint lines and highlight both horizontal road signage and pedestrian crossings. A solid double line will be painted in La Savina, and a solid single line will stretch 200 metres from outside town in the direction of Sant Francesc until past the petrol station.

Pinturas y Señales de Mallorca S.L. is the company responsible for completing the €48.223.49 job.
